Lindsey’s Maternity Session

A few weeks back, I photographed Lindsey’s maternity session in Port Coquitlam.

We started out the session at my studio. I used a white backdrop with curtains which created a whimsical, soft and angelic look that I really like. I later used a black backdrop which allowed me to use dramatic lighting. Using a black backdrop also creates amazing black and white images. I also have a peach backdrop that I use in some maternity sessions but I think the simplicity of the colour black and white, are all you need when getting photographs taken.

For the outdoor images I went to a park near my studio. The park in located in Centennial Heights and has tall grass, a pond, a trail, beautiful view and lots of flowers, which I love. The main reason I pick this park when I do a studio/outdoor sessions is how quiet it is. In the Spring and Summer months, sometimes it is a struggle finding a location that doesn’t have lots of tourists and people enjoying the sun. I can edit people out of the backdrop but when there are more than 20, it can be very difficult. Before any session, I always ask if there are any areas or settings preferred for photos. Based on this, I can give a list of locations that are ideal and will work out perfectly for photos.

In general, I think two tough locations everyone wants photos is Stanley Park and Gastown in Vancouver. There are always a lot of people walking, sightseeing and cycling, which can be difficult getting images without a million distracting things happening in the backdrop. It is possible but you have to pick the right season and day or the week.

Overall, the maternity session went perfectly and I can’t wait to photograph the Lindsey’s little one soon. He will be arriving at end of July.

Enjoy the pics
