This past August, I photographed a lifestyle newborn session in Vancouver for my friend.

This little nugget was amazing and I really enjoy photographing him. I’m currently 8.5 months pregnant and I can’t wait to take photos like this of my little one. I love newborn photographs at home in organic, natural light. Lifestyle pictures provoke more emotion in black and white so their are no coloured ones in this post. For lifestyle sessions I give both colour and black and white images in my packages.

Newborn Sessions: Lifestyle vs Posed

I offer two different types of newborn sessions: posed and lifestyle. Right now, I feel like posed sessions are a lot more popular but I love the feel and intimate nature of lifestyle sessions.

With posed sessions, I have a studio I use. There are tones of outfits, baskets, backdrops, outfits, hats, bonnets and so much more. I use studio lights and have a white noise machine and heaters to keep the baby nice and warm.

Posed sessions generally takes place 5-10 days after the baby is born. It is important to photograph the baby during these early days because they are sleepy and flexible so I can pose them into those really cute positions.

Lifestyle sessions are taken at home. I like to call it, ‘day in the life of baby’. The photos are documentary style and display what it is like being a baby. I take pictures of the parents, baby’s room, baby being fed and so much more. The lighting used is window light so it is always important for me to know the  layout of your home before I schedule a session. It is also important to declutter the home as well. If you have any bottles, plates or etc laying around on tables, it is important to remove them.
