Pitt Lake
Pitt Meadows, located just east of Vancouver, is one of the Lower Mainland’s most underrated photography spots. It blends farmland, wetlands, mountain backdrops, and coastal light—making it especially rewarding for landscape and wildlife photographers.
There’s something about Pitt Lake that rewards patience. Arrive before sunrise and you’ll often find the water perfectly still, acting like a mirror for the surrounding peaks. On cooler mornings, mist drifts across the surface, softening the scene into something almost painterly.
Golden hour brings a different mood. As the sun dips, warm light brushes across the mountain ridges, adding depth and contrast to an otherwise minimal scene. Even on days when the light feels flat, the lake has a way of offering subtle tones and textures that reward a careful eye.
Now even though Pitt Lake is a beautiful spot, it can get busy. It is close to golf courses that host weddings so in the warmer months, on the weekends, expect to see other photographers their with large bridal parties.
Be careful in late June and July as the mosquitoes are very fierce. Pitt Lake has lots of areas where stagnant water lays, so bring your bug spray. I would also avoid bringing small children here at this time as they will get bites. Go in early Spring, late summer or fall and you wont regret it.
