Whonnock is a place the is very near and dear to my heart. I grew up there.
My mom and dad bought a house there in 1997 and still live there. I went to the old Whonnock Elementary school and grew up a few minutes from Whonnock Lake. I have been there a million times and even had my grade 7 graduation there, lol.
It is a beautiful area for photos as it offers so many option for photos. My favorite place, is of course, the dock followed by the beach area. I also really like the road leading up to the lake for as well. So many trees and no houses or busy distractions.
Ideally, I prefer Whonnock Lake for photo sessions in the Spring and October as it isn’t as busy. It is a popular area for swimmers in the summer but if you are able to start a session later in the day, it is totally worth it. I have never done photos there in the Winter but feel like it something I have to do. The lake often freezes over when it is cold enough and people ice skate on it. I think that would make a pretty cool engagement session – a romantic couple dancing on the ice with the snow falling – amazing!
Whonnock Lake is also such a great location for weddings. I have done a few weddings there and love it. The venue never goes out of style. Those big windows facing the garden are amazing.
This engagement session was done in July at golden hour – my favorite time. We had the perfect weather.
Now this couple said they were not good in front of the camera but I strongly disagree. They were naturals. I get to see these two again for their wedding in September. I can’t wait.
