On April 24th, I got to photograph my first destination wedding in Mexico!! Aimee and Jon had a stunning wedding which was located at Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort and Spa just outside of Cancun.
I met Aimee and Jon last summer when I photographed their engagement photos. Till this day, their engagement photos are one of my favorites – the sky was cloudy and dramatic with a hint of bright sunlight shining through the clouds. There was so much colour and texture and on top of that, I took the photos at Whonnock Lake – one of favourite photo locations! Take a look at their photos!
Photographing in Mexico was not only exciting but a great learning experience. I got to photograph in a new environment with swaying palm trees, sand and a clear blue ocean. The lighting was bright but just after 5:00 pm the colours and tones were amazing. The endless sun and clear sky is something I wish I could pack in my bag and take home to Vancouver!
Before I left Vancouver for Mexico, I prepared a lot. I got extra memory cards, an external hard drive with memory card slots to back up my photos, extra lens cloths, lots of batteries, a travel letter from the Mexican Consulate and the list goes on. The one and only thing that I didn’t anticipate was the amount of condensation that got on my lens from moving from an air conditioned room to the outside air. I had to tie a lens cloth onto my camera strap so I had constant access to something for wiping my lens. It was annoying but not a huge inconvenience.
Overall, I had an excellent time in Mexico and I hope to experience more adventures there soon!
Enjoy!
